Again, I'm very sorry to hear about these troubles you're having. As I mentioned, there are exercise groups you could join that would provide both companionship/comraderie and motivation with respect to exercise. Is there a YMCA near you? How about a local gym that offers aerobics classes or the like? Feel free to contact me (arhalle@yahoo.com) if you think there's anything else I could suggest that might help. The bottom line is that you've got to take the first step, get out there, and find something. There are plenty of options if you look.

Anne, it was so nice to hear from you and get some knowledgable imput for how to get out of this mindset that I have gotton into. You know, I love to exercise and have it has been a part of my life until I started to take care of everybody and everything except myself. I love the idea of cycling. I did some of that in Colorado. I wish I were there now because just a simple walk will give you much of what you need. I deny depression but I think that may be exactly what it is...I live in Florida so I checked (since your note) on canoe group who do other outdoor activities and I am so ready for that. I'll keep you posted. It starts in about 5 weeks. I have started walking, that alone tells me there is a life other than working all the time. Anne, write again. You got me thinking of the time spent outside and just laughing with other people...it lifts us up. I have a friend looking into a bike also. Until later, Lyn

I'm really sorry to hear this. Depression and lack of exercise may be separate issues, but they can also certainly reinforce each other and result in a vicious cycle. In any area nowadays, there are plenty of local exercise groups you could get involved with. For example, I joined a cycling group that met for group rides once a week in the evening. It was totally non-competitive and there were people from all skill levels. Everyone went at their own pace and gathered before and after to socialize. I found it nice, both because it was an excuse to get out there and do a solid hour and a half of cycling, and because I met some really nice and interesting people that I shared an interest with. I'd encourage you to look around-maybe online (craigslist, for example, or myspace) or in a local exercise-oriented stores.

Good luck!

motivation to keep going

I have a hard time staying motivated. I am alone most of the time, I know I need the exercise but if I don't have personal contact with a live human being, I haven't the stamina to push myself. I am so depressed over this. No body I know can help me through this delima and it is getting worse all of the time. What do I do? Lyn
